Sunday August 11th Lamp Making with Seth Grizzle of Gray Pants Studios
Seth Grizzle is the ever-charming founder and creative director of Graypants Studio based in Seattle and Amsterdam. They make terrific, hip lights. Their Scraplights are beautiful, organic shapes made from recycled cardboard. Graypants also creates very contemporary ceiling systems and their newest lights — the Wick — are a remarkable modern take on an earlier candlestick. I love them all.
We will be constructing Scraplights, the cardboard globe lights. The combination of the elegance of the organic shape of the lights and the common, utilitarian material of corrugated cardboard is powerful.
The afternoon will be spent designing the shape and size of our lamp and assembling them as a table lamp with the computer-cut cardboard from Graypants. Seth will give us instruction in how lights are designed and produced and assist us through the process. This will be a very hands-on class, with all of us working around the long wooden table in the barn creating a unique piece to take home at the end of the afternoon.
We will break for a farm lunch mid way through, returning to the Barn to finish up our project. You will each take home your completed lamp at the end of a fine day on the farm.
