BarnTalks 2024
This year I am introducing BarnTalks at the farm, one on July 21st, the other July 28th. The events will take place in the newly repurposed timber-frame cow barn.
Each BarnTalk will have two speakers, discussing who they are, the work they do and what they love. One will speak before lunch, the other after. Each will be interviewed by someone who knows them well.
We will be serving coffee and pastries in the morning, lunch mid-day, and a bit of a happy hour at the end. Arrive at 10 am, and the day should wind up around 4 pm.
The day will be filled with interesting conversations, stories and ideas. And there will be plenty of chances for asking questions and engaging with the speakers.
The barn is open to the pastures, and just forty-five guests will fill the former cow barn. It is a beautiful space, intimate and yet also open to the farm and summer air.
BarnTalks is a chance to spend the day at the farm, have a great lunch, meet new people with similar interests and get to know the lives and work of these fascinating speakers.
I am very excited about these events and I think you are going to love them.
Classes 2024
I host classes at the farm every weekend during the summer months. Taught by different teachers, they run a large variety of topics, from dumplings to sausages to bookbinding. I believe everyone can find something that they will enjoy.
Each class begins at 11:00 and runs till approximately 3:00 in the afternoon with a break during that time. Lunch is served, either as part of a cooking class, or prepared as an accompaniment to the art classes. There is always rosé in the refrigerator. These are intimate classes: just eleven folks around the high butcher block island in the Cookhouse. It’s a chance to learn and ask questions from an expert. These teachers are very knowledgable, charming and eager to chat with you.
Please read details concerning refunds, wait lists and emails at the very bottom of this page.
2024 Events
Take your time to look over the class schedule. Check with your friends to make sure they are available that day. I am happy to make a refund in the first forty-eight hours after you book it, but after that refunds are not available. You are always welcome to send a friend in your place.
If you cannot attend, and there are people on the wait list, I can offer your seat(s) to those on the wait list. If I can resell that ticket I can refund the purchase price to you. I do need to hold back $25 to cover the transaction costs.
I ask that everyone attending be at least 16 years old.
When purchasing a class, if it says that it is available but doesn’t allow you to purchase two spots, it means that only one seat is still available.
Sales tax is added to all classes at the time of purchase.
Once a class has filled up, it will be listed as SOLD OUT, but if you go to that page, there will be a window to sign up for a wait list. Seats do become available so do sign up there.
The classes all take place at Kurtwood Farms located on Vashon Island. The island is accessed only by ferry. The boats leave from Fauntleroy in West Seattle, Southworth in Kitsap County and Pt. Defiance in Tacoma. During the summer weekends the boats can be busy. I will send you directions to the farm and further ferry instructions via email a week before each class.
You will receive an automated email immediately after purchasing a class acknowledging the transaction. I will send out a personal email the week before your class with any further directions or instructions.
Please leave your dogs at home when you come to the farm. Scout would prefer to be the only pup here.
