Sunday July 20th BarnTalk with Dan Hinkley, David Montgomery and Steve Scher

$250.00

For this first BarnTalk of the summer, I have brought together three very interesting guys: David Montgomery, Dan Hinkley and Steve Scher. Both David and Dan have spent their professional lives exploring the soils of this area; David in the geological sense and Dan in the flora that inhabits those soils. They have contributed greatly through teaching about their respective specialities. Each will be in conversation with Steve Scher, a remarkable interviewer familiar to the listeners of KUOW and NPR.

  • David R. Montgomery is a professor of geomorphology at UW, a MacArthur Fellow, and writes about humanities relationship with the land. He is the author of Growing a Revolution: Bringing Our Soil Back to Life, What Your Food Ate: How to Heal Our Land and Reclaim Our Health, among other books.

  • Dan Hinkley, plantsman, horticulturist, founder of Heronswood Nursery and Windcliff and author of The Explorer’s Garden: Rare and Unusual Perennials and Shrubs and Vines From the Four Corners of the World among other books. Dan has spent his career traveling the world seeking out unusual plants, returning to his gardens to propagate these intriguing and beguiling specimens.

  • Steve Scher, formerly the host of Weekday on KUOW and contributor to Town Hall podcasts and events, is currently a lecturer at UW School of Communications. He is the author of The Moon Bear,” his first children’s book.
